–Loon Lake, Wisconsin
this is where the Frank’s cabin is located. Their cabin reminds me of my Aunt Sandy’s old cabin, it smells the same and has the same kitchen chairs. I visited it on a work trip so there wasn’t a lot of time to enjoy the amenities of the cabin (dock slide, four wheeler, boat, etc), but I did get to take a nap on the dock enjoying a little sun and bird calling.
I woke up to the loons calling each morning and I squeezed in a morning jog one day…
I love lake communities with their big wooden signs that post all the residents so people can find their friends’ cabins easily, I like the nautical themed yard decorations and the crazy colored storage sheds.
I like the “come as you are” feeling that happens when you’re in a cabin that has mismatched furniture and dishes.
I like that the bathroom is far too small to even think about makeup or curling irons.
I like thinking about whether the trash I have is burnable, recyclable, or “have to take it home trash”. (I had a lot less take home trash than I throw away when I am at home!)
I love the smell of the woods in the morning and the sound of water lapping up on the shore. Both things that are completely gifts that God gives us that never measure up when we try to force them or recapture them in man made devices.
Even though it was a work trip…and I came home tired…my heart wishes I could go back for a little more Cabin-ing.
