Life in this moment…

{entertaining, odd, and hopefully not too far away from reality}

camp January 28, 2008

i love camp,
especially camp where i don’t have to plan anything…i simply get to play and hang out with people and talk life.

i love walking outside in the crisp 10 degree air and campy sunshine.
i love watching kids play broomball and seeing them cheer each other on.
i love watching God move in a youth’s heart.
i love playing speed and can can with kids and getting a little out of control–oh I can bring it!
i love that kid that always volunteers for the disgusting group challenge where you have to eat something and not puke…
i love running around at night solving clues…
i love reminding kids to stop purpling
i love falling asleep after a long day of laughter, tears, camp food, and girl talk…
i love singing the girls to sleep.
i love watching the gal transition from the wallflower to part of the group.
i love being outside, away from normal stuff that distracts me, simply able to be…

this weekend was great
no girls puked this year, we won the broomball championship, and the girls were placed in the big chalet where there are indoor bathrooms! (no walking through the snow to shower!)

pursuit of life to the full…. January 17, 2008

So after a week of spending time with my darlings…img_2047.jpg

I’ve learned this about myself. I appreciate the me that works within a schedule. The boys have a clear schedule: wakeup, eat, play, change, eat, play, change, sleep, eat…etc. Their day goes smoothly if all things fall into place somewhere close to where they belong. As I fell into step with this schedule I found that I am a far more healthier me! I woke up at an hour that many adults wake up, then ate breakfast (i’m rarely known to do this!) then went to the gym with the boys, ate lunch that included veggies (who would have thought), then even managed to wash dishes, do my Bible study, read a bit, sweep, organize my thoughts for my work stuff…and then play more with the boys when they woke up from their naps. since I was just subbing in on the mom job I still needed to do church stuff each evening to make up for not being in the office during the day…but even then I was a more productive me. I knew I only would be in for a few hours so I managed to accomplish so much!

Today was my first day off the boys schedule and I have to say…it isn’t fun. I slept until 8:30, didn’t eat breakfast, made it to BSF but not to they gym, when in the office I accomplished little and as I ran to my other meetings I realized that I didn’t take my vitamin today and that I haven’t really eaten anything other than an oatmeal pie that was in my office this morning.

I wonder that if for me to encounter life to the full I need to become a wee bit more regimented in some aspects of my life…I wonder if the free-ness of my church schedule has enabled me to simply grow more undisciplined and in turn less effective. Never thought I would say it…but I may need to make myself order my day. oh days of youth and flexibility, I’m sad to leave you…

how quickly a month can pass… January 11, 2008

quick rundown

drove to Texas…saw Rachel in Missouri where we delivered Christmas presents to some families, went to Silver Dollar City, and wore matching pajamas…stopped at 2 national parks on the drive…spent 5 days at home where I shopped, crafted, learned how to play Wii and Guitar Hero, ate tremendous amounts of food and loved on my family…drove back to MN through Wichita and Kansas City. It was fun, no bad weather, and I was able to enjoy people who I adore!

when arriving in MN I decided to embark on the great cleaning of the habitat tour of 2008…i spent 4 days sorting, scrubbing, pitching, and organizing most of my home. it feels good!

now i am watching the lovely Tietjen boys during the day while Danielle is in Haiti. They are keeping me on my toes and helping me get into the habit of going to bed before midnight. I love these boys!
